Statement of Purpose:
The purpose of this site is to promote and facilitate mass participation in resistance to the Rupublican National Convention to be held in St. Paul/Minneapolis, Minnesota from September 1-4, 2008. This site will serve as a hub for news, information and logistics regarding the actions against the RNC and the policies of the Republican Party.
Why the RNC?
The Republicans are a political party which controls an enormous portion of state power, because of this the Republicans are responsible for an enormous amount of the horror and devastation currently experienced by the world and its peoples. Because the political conventions are made out to be one of the biggest political spectacles in American society it provides a great opportunity to stand up in collective resistance with a broad spectrum of peoples and say enough. It gives a great opportunity to rise up and create a political spectacle of our own, one which shows that we have had enough of war, environmental destruction, horrible trade deals and exploitation of workers (among many issues) and that we want to (and can!) create a world based on direct democracy, equality, ecological sustainability and happiness for all peoples.
What is S.D.S.?
Students for a Democratic Society (S.D.S. for short) is a national, action oriented student and youth power network devoted to collective liberation within ourselves, our schools, and our communities. S.D.S. uses participatory democracy and takes direction from community based organizations to make positive social change.
